NEW DELHI: If you thought economic liberalisation or the prime minister’s golden quadrilateral ‘‘dream’’ was limited to prime time news banter, here is a sampler of what appeared in the Class X social science question paper.
‘‘Describe six measures of liberalisation taken by Government of India.’’ ‘‘Study map illustrating National Highway Development Project and answer questions that follow.’’
It seemed India was ‘‘shining’’ not just in the media, but also in the Central Board of Secondary Education’s Class X social studies examination on Wednesday.

The first major examination for Class X students was also the board’s largest with almost 5.4 lakh students appearing for it across the country.
While the question paper was described as a ‘‘cakewalk’’ by many students and teachers, the presence of certain ‘‘unconventional’’ questions in one of the sets did not go unnoticed. The question on liberalisation measures was for six marks and the map work on NHDP for two marks.
Teachers say all questions are from the syllabus and the topics do find a mention in the prescribed books published by National Council for Education Research and Training (NCERT).
‘‘The first chapter deals with heritage. Examples include worship of rivers like the Ganga and Yamuna. The divine significance associated with neem and tulsi, and animals and birds used as vehicles by different deities are other examples mentioned in the book,’’ said Prabha Verma, head of the social science department at Apeejay School, Noida.
